I had no idea it existed, but apparently you could get a Toyota Rav4 with a 3rd row of seats.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_RAV4#Third_generation_(XA30;_2005%E2%80%932012)
“It is also the first generation of RAV4 to be offered in regular (for Asian and European markets, dropping the spare wheel from the rear) and extended (for North American and Australian markets) versions”
I can’t imagine there’d be much room in that last row (or behind it), but I guess you do learn something new every day!

They sold so few that it was canceled for the current generation.
Did you know you can buy a rogue with a third row?

I wouldn’t doubt that it didn’t sell well. I mean the target market of families with children who have no legs has got to be pretty small.
I did know about the 3rd row Rogue. For some reason I think they are hideous, though. Although at this point I’m certainly trying to keep my options open. I really suspect I’ll end up with a Toyota Sienna (or maybe a Honda Odyssey). Although I just did a quick search and was pleased with the massive depreciation on the Lincoln MKT (even if it does look like a hearse).

I tried to get my wife to look at them but she was having none of it. The 3rd gen v6 was speedy too. We ended up in another Toyota with a hilariously small 3rd row.

I think it would make more sense for a third row in a Rav4 to set of two benches facing sideways.
The Mitsubishi Adventure (a small suv sold in southeast asia ) has/had a seating arrangement like this for more than 10 years.

Interesting that they offered both the V6 and the third row. I generally associate them as your run of the mill small SUV.

That V6 model was a sleeper and pretty fun to drive, too. 0-60 in the low 6s range, IIRC.

My uncle is a Toyota engineer and when I was looking at them new he was telling me that the engineers kind of ram rodded the v6 through because at the time there wasn’t any “fun cars” in the lineup. And man that was true. Even though it was a dowdy rav4 it was topical hot rod formula - jam the engine from the big car into the small one.

My SIL had a 3-row early highlander, back when they were just a slightly bigger Rav4. Hilarious. Designed for relatives with no limbs, torsos, or necks.

yeah but the 3rd row in the Rogue cancels out all cargo space except for something the size of a box of cereal.
just like the 2015 and older Sorento

I had a 2008 v6 rav4 with 3rd row — and we loved it! Dealer tried to disuade me — said no one wanted the 3rd row, but he searched tri state area for one for me back then, thankfully.
The back row was perfect for our uses — folded flat into the floor when not needed but added versitility for hauling extra kids (or long- haul c omfort for 1 smallish adult , or 2 ki ds under 11ish) — which worked great fo r us as we had 3 kids and also coached a 12u baseball team. That c ar had so much pep. Would still be driving it if it hadnt been swept off the road & drowned in a flash flood last spring.
